Seeaal
Seeaal (literally: sea eel) is a German delicacy.
It consists of skinned,
smoked
backs of
spiny dogfish.
Smoked belly flaps of spiny dogfish are sold as
Schillerlocken.
Sometimes the term Seeaal is used as a synonym for
European conger
(German: Meeraal).
Spiny dogfish are sharks, whose conservation status has become vulnerable due
to heavy fishing. It should therefore not be used in cuisine.
