Steaks may be cut from different animals and body parts. This article shows the best known steak cuts from beef. Beef steaks should be a pleasure from first to last bite. Whether this is the case depends on the selection of the right meat, how evenly it is cut and how well the butcher cut the animal apart. Beef has to be aged to produce good quality steaks.

The most tender meat for steaks comes from the tenderloin. Steaks may also be cut from other animals, for example pork or veal. The names of these steaks often contain the meat variety to distinguish them from beef steaks. Examples are: pork loin chops and veal rump steaks.
