Refined Sugar, de.: Raffinade

Refined sugar is a pure white sugar of highest quality. This sugar is produced from sugar solutions that contain very few or no impurities.

To produce bright white refined sugar from raw sugar, it has to be dissolved and crystallized several times until a sugar solution without impurities has developed. This dissolving and crystallization is called refining or refinement, which is why the finished product is called refined sugar.
