Prebiotics,
de.: Präbiotika
Prebiotics are non-digestible substances that stimulate the growth of
certain wanted microorganisms and thus benefit to health.
They are one category of functional foods and constitute an important part
of the dietary fibres in human nutrition.
Prebiotics are mostly but not exclusively carbohydrates.
Some prebiotics are plant fibres,
inulin
(from
chicory),
fructo- and galacto-oligosaccharides, lactulose, and sugar alcohols.
