Ortega

Ortega is a white grape variety that takes up about 0,7 % of the vine cultivation in Germany. The largest area of cultivation in Germany is Rheinhessen. Ortega vine is a grape cross between Muller-Thurgau and Siegerrebe.

Wines from Ortega grapes are not very aromatic but have a high sugar content and not much acidity. In countries of cultivation further in the south an aroma of grapefruit and other tangy fruits can be obtained. This grape variety is vulnerable to different crop diseases, and pesticides are often used to protect it.
